A Beautiful Mind

Having an eager, young mind was what I admired most about him. The guy who would always have 20 questions ready for absolutely any topic that is raised. It was a must for him to fully understand what is being discussed, to the smallest detail. He was the only ME student I know who so wanted to take an IE subject pertaining to Operations Research. He is one who wouldn't give up on getting his headlights to work again, even if it would take him hours, with minimal lighting, to get it fixed.

He showed me what a Beautiful Mind is. One who sincerely yearns for the reality of things, to fully grasp the truth of the way things are.

"Perhaps it is good to have a beautiful mind, but an even greater gift is to discover a beautiful heart." - John Nash

True enough, I witnessed this first hand with him. He had both a Beautiful Mind and a Beautiful Heart. So rare on this earth, and I am truly blessed to have had a friend with such a mind and heart. The willingness to always be of service to others was ever present with him. Always offering his helping hand, whether it be with a problem in any ES subject, the need for assistance in an org project or a personal problem. That's just it: He was always there. He was someone you could always count on, 100% of the time. Never did he exert less than his full effort in order to accomplish or solve the task or problem at hand. Never did he fail anyone.

Certainly, it was his Beautiful Heart that prevailed over his Beautiful Mind. It was his heart that made his mind so special. It was his reason for doing the things he did that left an indelible mark in every single person that crossed his way.

Thank you for showing me that greatness is exemplified by a beautiful mind with a beautiful heart.

Perfection: The state or quality or being or becoming perfect.
Perfect: Conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type

These are definitions obtained from Dictionary.com, which is really helpful by the way.

These used to be my mission, now, they are my vision.

Quoting one of my professors:
Mission is the purpose for being, while vision is a state one sees oneself in the future, which is unachievable.

Unachievable. I have come to realize that each person has his or her own definition for perfection.
For me, my definition is definitely unreachable, which I have just realized.

I have constantly strived to achieve perfection in every aspect of my life.
However, this has caused so much unhappiness within. I have never been satisfied with anything I have accomplished, and have always focused on the negatives.

As timteego said: This negativity has to stop.
And I totally agree.

My idea of perfection will remain the same. The difference is the way I will be treating.
It will serve more as a direction, rather than an end.

Divisoria + Christmas calorie count

Since I did not have anything planned for today, I decided to spend my morning shopping with my Dad and Tita in Divisoria!
Yup, I got up extra early (5am), got into the right clothes and decided to bring a body bag, which I thought was the right bag to bring.
The agenda for the day was to buy: 21 kilos of chestnuts (from our suki), a few kilos of kiat kiat and grapes, and 500 pieces of those paper-thin Chinese biscuits which are actually yummy.
Our ride going there was pretty smooth, no traffic encoutnered at all. It was when we got there that we experienced traffic...traffic on foot!
I swear, there were so many people, that at times, we would be stuck standing in one of those narrow roads or aisles, waiting for all those in front to actually start moving! Ugh. I am not one who particularly enjoys rubbing elbows with strangers in a place like that, so that was pretty uncomfortable for me.
We did a lot of walking, as expected, but it was all good, since the weather was kind to us. It wasn't hot at all, and all throughout the whole trip, I did not sweat!
Aside from our list of things to buy, I added a Strawberry Shortcake bath towel (for my spoiled and maarteng inaanak), 2 collared tops, a bunch of hair ties, a crystal case for my new phone, and a few DVD's. This isn't much coz I was kinda nahihilo na while walking around and I really couldn't take the crowded areas; even my dad was getting all woozy already.
So at around noon time, we decided to head back to our car, which was a long walk from 168 Shopping Mall.
The whole time that we were walking around the area, I was really paying attention to my belongings, making sure that everything was still intact.
So as we were heading back to the car, I felt pretty fulfilled coz all my belongings were still with me and I was not sweaty at all and I was pretty proud that I did experience Divisoria.
But things didn't quite turn out the way I thought they would...
As soon as we got to the parking area, I decided to check my phone (which was just in my bag all this time). That's when I saw that the zipper was open, and my phone was gone!
If I could have screamed right there, I would have... Gosh, that was the second phone that was stolen from me... Not a good record at all...
Hay, I swear, you really have to protect your belongings at ALL TIMES! It doesn't matter whether you are at UP (where my first phone was stolen) or at Divisoria.. people nowadays are very clever and sneaky.
What shocks me even more, my dad was walking behind me all this time, and he did not notice a thing! Can you imagine how "good" these people are? Gosh, it's just so saddening to think that people are becoming "experts" at the all the wrong areas.

It's a good thing that my dad told me to use my old phone today, and not the new one which I just got yesterday. Can you imagine if I did? Never mind, I don't even want to think about it. Ugh.

I guess I'm just lucky that I already have my new phone, I'll just have to wait for my new sim to get to me, which will only take a few days, I hope..

*sigh*

Anyway, on to my Christmas calorie count..

It has only been 6 days since my Christmas break started and I am feeling all these pounds building up in me...

Must implement damage control immediately!

Being stuck at home does not help at all.. Especially with grandparents who get hurt when you do not intake their cooking.
Therefore, for tomorrow, I have decided to have a Starbucks session. That way, I can really focus on all my acads that I have been putting off since like a month ago (all due to Engineering Week) and avoid all foods at home, and of course, enjoy my dose of caffeine.

Do you believe in magic?

Isn’t it wonderful how the whole concept of Disney just makes the world seem like it is such a perfect place to be in?

It’s like when you are in Disneyland/world, it’s like nothing can go wrong. All you feel is happiness and love all round. No one there is seen without a genuine smile on their face, a smile that you know comes from true happiness felt deep within.

The whole atmosphere created within the whole concept of Disney, not only the theme parks, but including the classic Disney movies (i.e. Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Pocahontas), is just so powerful and magical that one can’t help but be entranced within the “perfect world.”

Oh how I wish I could live in such a world, if only because I would like to see on my face that smile coming from true happiness and love deep inside.

I used to have that smile on my face, but nowadays, I can’t find it in me anymore.

Where has it gone?

I know that it will come back to me sooner or later.

sleep is always a good thing

Gosh, this week was one of the, if not the most, hell-est week ever! Talk about sleeping for only 3-5 hours, and not even getting the much awaited sleep that you have been looking forward to due to the fact that, even in my sleep, just the mere thought of our exam was haunting me. It's like from the moment i get out of bed, to the moment i lay down to rest, all I could stress and worry about was our Statistics and Probability exam..boo..

I have realized that:
- coffee is love, if and only if you want to stay up til the wee hours of the morning
- my crucial hour is 1 am, whereas after I have surpassed that sleepy hour, i can go on without a teeny bit of sleep
- I need aircon whenever I study! I swear, the heat hinders my brain from retaining any essential information

On the other hand, I have also learned that we do need sleep! Most especially right before an exam!
I so do not want to feel the migraine I had for like 3 days straight. It was the first time I felt like puking due to the ongoing throbbing in my head. "Stop squeezing my temples!"

In the end, the exam was still...weird...
ugh. how much more studying should I have done?.. :(

over the ice cream bar

Having a carb-loaded lunch in Shakey's was not part of my Saturday agenda.
My day was full of meetings and appointments and a Shakey's break with my parents was something I surprisingly needed...
Though the guilt-trip i received from myself after did not help at all.

My mom must have been extremely hungry since she ordered a family-sized pizza, a plate of spaghetti and a basket of mojos! (carbs galore! ugh.)
Dear Lord, she was really hungry coz she sweeped the whole table together with my dad, thankfully.
And to top it all of, she suddenly wanted to try the ice cream bar! Oh yes, we got that bowl full of low-fat vanilla ice cream (just trying to make myself feel a wee bit better..), with lots of toppings and syrup! What was our game plan? Layers! Yup, we did it layer by layer: ice cream, toppings (colorful sprinklers, rice crispies, peanuts, marshmallows, M&M's, Chocolate chips) + syrup, then ice cream again, and so on. Can you say sinful?

Amidst all those so-called bad foods, it was fun! I swear, my mom was so happy (as always) to see me eat! That's like one of her small joys in life.
All in all, it was nice to have some time alone with your parents; something i needed after much drama at home.

It's true, what they say, that, in life, you can't have it all; they are given to you in proportions, which vary from person to person.
I realized, I'm deeply grateful for the proportion given to me. It is but human nature to want more, true.
But it is also human nature to appreciate and work with what you have been blessed with.

It was effin' hot today!

So, in order to get my mind and body off the heat, my siblings and i watched X-Men 3 ("The wrath of hell is nothing to a woman scorned."), where I had cheese popcorn + coke light galore (Oh dear, what was I thinking?!?), then bummed at home with our PlayStation. I haven't played in a long time and oh how I've missed Dance Dance Revolution and Southpark: Chef's Love Shack!

Ultimate no-brainers, I know, don't worry, but it was so great to just laugh about it, knowing that you're slowly getting addicted to it!

Oh well, the effects of boredom...
